We have 2 one bedroom family tree houses that are ideal for a family of four, they stretch through the canopy exposing a high view of the forested Karatara gorge far below.
The huge Safari tent includes Queen sized bed, double bunk and an ensuite bathroom. There are fully equipped kitchen, dining and lounge facilities enclosed by glass to maximize the view. The family tree houses are toddler friendly. They have large family corner baths.
The site was selected after extensive exploration. Small exploratory paths were cut to extend the natural animal trails through the dense, virgin forest. While searching for an ideal location a particularly thorny struggle led us to the fallen remains of an invader Rooikrans tree. Light streamed through the rip in the canopy far above, lifting the gloom from the forest floor. By climbing along the fallen tree and standing on tiptoes, the amazing view of the valley below was revealed…
The 30m path winds through the forest carefully avoiding damage to the indigenous trees. The boardwalk provides an organic entrance onto the unit.
We carefully planted the main poles underpinning the tree house into the ground, avoiding root damage. The substructure held the scaffolding to build the deck, without damage to the sensitive forest floor.
The back of the unit is 1m off the ground, while the front is above the tree line, towering 8m off the steeply plunging slope below.
